[tales of woe (?) then]
“But one piece of insight stays inside this tale of woe much like grit in an oyster. It's the fact that annoyingly, a large enough proportion also claim to be happier than they were before.”
Annoyingly? The Author is annoyed by other’s happiness.
But, following the Author’s simile, it is at the grit stage, not yet a pearl. After many pixels, the Author finds that it is the “steady feeling of progress” that is at the core of this inexplicable happiness, or is the pearl, or grit, or whatever the Author was trying to say.
Some might say even the hope of progress is enough.
Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for — Joseph Addison
It might be profitable for the Author to explore the formal discipline of “happiness studies”...journal and everything..
