I'd say most consumer software falls in the third category, including yours. "Fast enough for the users" is apparently, in your case, "fast enough to give you competitive edge." Your wonky polygon was apparently a bug with sufficient impact to not make the program act in the way the users expected it to. Aesthetics and UI is really important to a lot of users.
