- theossuary 6y agoCreated a poll, hopefully we can get an accurate representation. I'm guessing it's at least 75% men https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25551382 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25551382
- st1x7 6y agoVery low estimate. I would be surprised if the actual number is less than 90% men.
- st1x7 6y agoMostly men with a large margin between the genders. That's probably the most accurate answer you're going to get out of this. Looking at some tech surveys like stackoverflow for example, the ratio is roughly 10:1. You could argue about HN demographics being slightly different for some reason but that would be just guesswork.
- ptm 6y agoWe can check the gender ratio [1] of the subreddit /r/hackernews (assuming the two have the same audience distribution). Unfortunately, the subreddit does not appear on the gender ratio page. [1] http://bburky.com/subredditgenderratios/ http://bburky.com/subredditgenderratios/ If you check related subreddits, /r/startups - 86:14 /r/sideproject - 91:9 /r/programming - 93:7 /r/webdev - 89:11 /r/cscareerquestions - 83:17 /r/netsec - 96:4 /r/technology - 85:15 Based on these numbers 10:1 seems like a good guess.
- kleer001 6y agoroughly 10:1 is my personal experience irl geek hobbies/jobs
- s_gangopadhyay 6y agoThis is kind of an insensitive question. A decent chunk of us are non-binary, and somewhere in between.
- kleer001 6y agoThis is kind of a bigoteering comment. Good faith interpretation of OP's question includes any and all possible sexual gender identities.
