Opt-in poll by company specializing in "pr-surveys" paid for by contact lens company suggests that average people spend more than 17 hours a day watching screens. That after 6 1/2 hours of sleep the "average" adult spends the entire rest of the day, every waking moment watching a screen. 365 days a year for 60 years "on average".
Clearly this is bogus "research".
- judge2020 6y agoTo add, this looks like it's some copy-paste thing being re-dated for the slow holiday news cycle. The original article (read: press release) looks to have been this[0] from May 11 of this year (inferring 'original' from the copyright at the bottom of the page being "72point" which onepoll claims to own[1]), and this same news source (studyfinds) reported on it only 5 days after it was published on May 16[2]. A (arguably) better source is this NY post article[3] which also contains a graphic[4]. 0: https://www.swnsdigital.com/2020/05/the-average-adult-will-spend-the-equivalent-of-34-years-of-their-lives-staring-at-screens/ https://www.swnsdigital.com/2020/05/the-average-adult-will-s... 1: https://www.onepoll.us/pr-surveys/ https://www.onepoll.us/pr-surveys/ 2: https://www.studyfinds.org/digital-overload-average-adult-will-spend-34-years-of-their-life-staring-at-screens/ https://www.studyfinds.org/digital-overload-average-adult-wi... 3: https://nypost.com/2020/06/03/average-american-destroys-their-vision-by-staring-at-screens-for-this-many-hours-a-year/ https://nypost.com/2020/06/03/average-american-destroys-thei... 4: https://vip.nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/06/screentime_research.png?_ga=2.221711640.1842567148.1609032661-23179190.1597621445 https://vip.nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/06/sc...
- ClumsyPilot 6y agoI looked at that too and though - i am only awake for 16 hours, how can they stare at a screen for 17?
- rspoerri 6y agoI've dreamt many times of playing a game or experience projects i've worked on. Interestingly i dont remember seeing a screen in my dreams, but i rarely look at it during the day as well. I guess that must count as watching on a screen :-)
