  In 1998, I literally got fired for buying IBM (actual IBM) over Apple. I don't think that me telling people this in the last 20 years has done much to counter this particular meme.

    Sympathies! Now I'm curious, how did it happen? What equipment was it, that your employer preferred Apple over IBM, let alone had such a vehement preference as to actually fire you over it?

    That really doesn't make any sense unless you were told to buy apple but said "hey these IBM laptops are cheaper and faster! I'll get them and they'll love how much I saved them."
