Webtor – free cloud BitTorrent-client
- elgatonegro 6y agoThis is suspicious to say the least. First of all, it's not clear why they'd take the economic hit to provide a service like this for seemingly no reward. Additionally, for something that advertises anonymity and security, this suffers from a fatal flaw: Why would anyone trust them to deliver when one can simply be in control and thus reduce the number of unknown variables and potential for things to go awry? Anonymity and security are incongruous with black-box "cloud" services.
- dayblox 6y agoI 100% agree, plus I wouldn't trust a service that says "anonymous and secure" when they don't force HTTPS and still talk about SSL.

- Nkuna 6y agoHow does this differ from https://instant.io/ https://instant.io/?
- Jnr 6y agoInstant.io is WebTorrent, where everything is handled client side using JavaScript. Webtor is server side, downloading using Bittorrent protocol on their server. This is stupid and will put them in a lot of trouble.
- dalu 6y agoMix in some blockchain and you can sell it to any upper management ;). Remeber, it doesn't have to make sense, only sound amazing
- aboringusername 6y ago> Resource webtor.io is not responsible for the content that was transmitted by users, and also for the possible harm that might be made. That's not how any of this works, at all. If somebody does something illegal is it absolutely your responsibility and you must implement certain measures or penalties can follow (host can suspend you, DNS providers can kick you off, third parties shamed and cut ties with you). If I post something illegal to this forum I'd expect it would be deleted and authorities contacted (and perhaps measures put in place to actively prevent harm from taking place at all, where possible). The EU is taking hard line action against lawlessness online, this defense won't hold up ("sorry it was the users I'm innocent" ended many years back).
- guilhas 6y agoYes, censorship, fascism and corporate dictatorship is on the rise To prevent harm to companies profits and protect governments from accountability

- david_perason 6y agoThe EU is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is US law.
