Covid 12/24: We’re F***ed, It’s Over
- draw_down 6y ago> While regular folk are told to cancel the holidays. Merry Christmas, suckers. Yep. To anyone observing that, enjoy. The people who told you to cancel and stay home won't be doing that themselves.

- Trasmatta 6y agoWhat's the consensus among epidemiologists and virologists about this new strain? And what are the author's qualifications?
- Clubber 6y agoThe NYT had an article estimating 70% more contagious but after quite a lot of scare writing, they quoted a doctor stating that the vaccines and antibodies would still work on it. “No one should worry that there is going to be a single catastrophic mutation that suddenly renders all immunity and antibodies useless,” Dr. Bloom said. “It is going to be a process that occurs over the time scale of multiple years and requires the accumulation of multiple viral mutations,” he added. “It’s not going to be like an on-off switch.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/20/health/coronavirus-britain-variant.html https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/20/health/coronavirus-britai...

- bobcostas55 6y agoI don't think the vaccines are really relevant if it genuinely is 1.7x more contagious. There's no way of getting enough vaccine supplies before we reach herd immunity through normal infection. Even with the current measures we're at ~R=1, so... At best we might have time to protect the oldest people and limit the number of deaths.
- onecommentman 6y agoThere is an attempt being made to tightly moderate a strictly science-based discussion on COVID on Reddit, r/COVID19. Babble is suppressed and misinformation is corrected by folks seemingly with knowledge and credentials. Might be a better source of information than this.
