I've been trying to figure out how to set up a local CA on my (linux) dev machine for a while now. Every time I get started I seem to run into problems. Does anyone have a simple guide for people who don't plan on investing in a raspberry pi?

Follow the instructions on whatever machine you want. A CA is about configuration and setup, not the hardware.
