Show HN: Calm Companies – Happy People Move a Company Forward
- quickthrower2 6y agoHello, I like the idea of calm companies but wonder if your idea of what that means could be different to mine. So do you have a manifesto or suchlike?
- tailspin2019 6y agoAgreed, some form of manifesto would be a great idea to add a bit more weight to this. The concept sounds good though.
- RaulOnRails 6y agoHey! Thanks. I’m glad your resonate with the concept. I’ll add more context to this in the upcoming days, but the gist is: an aggregator of companies that are transparent, question profit at all costs, want to stay small on purpose, and put people first. It’s going to be a mix of remote companies and local businesses. And people will be able to suggest companies that fit this profile as well. You’ll also know if some of them have any openings or not.
- tailspin2019 6y agoGood luck with it!
- RaulOnRails 6y agoWhat does the calm companies idea mean to you? I’m eager to hear more if it’s different.
- quickthrower2 6y agoTo me a calm company would foremost: Balance growth with ethics, preferring to be ethical as possible. Be kind to staff. Always help them find success rather than bully them or tell them off for doing the wrong thing. But needs to be balanced with what the company needs so there would need to be two ways. Is flexible with staff where reasonable. Most of all avoid getting angry at people. Not by suppressing anger but by having a worldview that you can trust your staff and they are doing their best your job is to coach them.
- RaulOnRails 6y agoYep. I totally agree. A calm company should be a place where you’re allowed to fail without being forced to get out the backdoor the next day. Failure is what make people grow, and if you don’t let them do that in a constructive and empathic manner, you’ll probably just using them as resources.
