Hoo boy is this bad advice. There’s lots of die hard pure technical minds out there who would benefit from being even incrementally more cognizant of the softer aspects of the technology business.
Value = build + persuade
Anyone focusing on the “build” part alone (without a partner who handles “persuade”) will struggle to have a truly significant economic impact. You can still have a perfectly good life by just being a builder, but it will be rate-limited.
- goldenkey 6y agoI really don't think so. Building entails everything. Build persuasive patterns. Really not hard. Ads these days, viral marketing. Everything is about building. As we know, programmers aren't one trick ponies. If you can do build infrastructures for apps or websites, you can build infrastructures for engagement. Of course it helps to have other people to parallelize work. But that doesn't mean you need to be in SV, get funding, network with the bronies, etc.
