Claude Shannon inventing switching theory is kind of like the american belief that the bessemer process originated in pittsburgh, or that the Intel 4004 / 8008 was designed by Intel and not N.E.C. . This technical-superiority propaganda is a relic of the cold war and we are seeing the same thing now with the rise of Chinese technology firms. In fact, similar to edison/tesla as well.
I'm not positing that one side is better, more that the US technological superiority is mostly a facade. Especially problematic as it creates complacency.
