Rust did a good thing by creating its own niche. D has constantly tried to appeal C++ programmers, implementing features such as better interop with C++ and a lot of advanced template structures. But C++ programmers won't go to D anyway, any language with a GC is dead in C++ programmers' eyes, even if it's reasonable argument or not.
