- gerikson 6y ago> Active for over a decade, Safe-Inet was being used by some of the world’s biggest cybercriminals, such as the ransomware operators responsible for ransomware, E-skimming breaches and other forms of serious cybercrime.
- the_pwner224 6y agoAlso from the article: > Law enforcement were able to identify some 250 companies worldwide which were being spied on by the criminals using this VPN. These companies were subsequently warned of an imminent ransomware attack against their systems, allowing them to take measures to protect themselves against such an attack. > The service has now been rendered inaccessible.
- zxcvbn4038 6y agoI read some other articles and seems that safe-inet was one of three services taken down, all had been heavily promoting and advertising themselves on dark web sites, where they promised bullet proof service for above market prices. So instead of a vpn service that happened to be used by criminals, they were a vpn service that marketed themselves to criminals. (In a literal sense, not a US style “they made us get a supena so they must be allied with the criminals” sense).
