Visual Studio needs to be on ARM. Otherwise you have to cross-compile, and the developer cost and effort to try to debug your code across multiple devices just isn't worth it these days.
- colejohnson66 6y agoAs someone who doesn’t do this, why? GDB supports remote debugging for starters. So what makes it hard?
- cromka 6y agoIf anything, remote debugging is annoyingly slow - at least from my experience.
- colejohnson66 6y agoEven if the machine is right next to you?
- CyanLite2 6y agoThere isn't any good hardware available today with Windows on ARM. So, while you CAN do it, it's not the best experience for doing it. By comparison, XCode shipped natively with the M1 release. The native debugging experience on Visual Studio is one of the best in the business. Take that away, and it's a crummy experience.
- CodeWriter23 6y agoPlease explain mobile apps then. That's all remote debugging, even if using the device simulator.
- my123 6y agoVisual Studio already runs on arm64 Windows.
