I'm sure a simple algorithm could fake book spines based on the dominant colors in the cover. Could maybe even train a ML model if you want to really over-engineer it. e.g. how the Android app "Blackplayer" colors the music player UI based on the album cover.

But the point is that "fake book spines" is the wrong answer no matter how they're generated.
