The intention behind this was obviously a business decision[^1]. You don't need to read an article with quotes from redhat executives to understand the reasoning. Putting out articles like this to obfuscate the reasoning just creates distrust. Obviously Redhat wants to move as many people as possible over to subscriptions in light of cloud offerings hurting them with their core enterprise market.
