Oh this is too bad. Can someone knowledgeble about comment on whether there may be a second-order impact on lens-making for e.g. astronomy?
(I got a tour of the Mirror Lab at the University of Arizona a couple years back; many large telescope mirrors are made here. Pretty cool. As I recall, one of the key steps involved getting raw material for glass from Japan.)
- supernova87a 6y agoIf you were on that tour, what you were probably seeing was the spinning mirror furnaces where they get their glass (in jagged chunks by the way!) directly from a Schott or Asahi, and I don't believe Nikon for example would have any middleman role there.
