He's only being used as an example because he is, presumably, the richest person on the planet. The author of the article does not make any comment on the makers of the vaccine, presumably because they are not even close to the same league when it comes to wealth. The whole point of that section is pointing out how the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer. What better example of the rich getting richer can you find than the wealthiest man in the world?
