The magnifying glass: how Covid revealed the truth about our world
- vixen99 6y agoOne tiny point: Freedland seems to imply that there's something deeply unpleasant in the observation that 'Jeff Bezos, whose pockets were filled by the pandemic and the dependency on home delivery it induced'. Does he object to vaccine makers' pockets similarly being filled as a result of the pandemic. Bezos is ultra rich only because he offers a superior service for consumers who make a conscious decision to use Amazon. If it wasn't superior they wouldn't use it. Many criticisms have been levelled at Bezos, many of them probably valid but his getting very rich by offering a service that huge numbers of people want to use, should not be one of them. Don't most startups want to succeed in this way?
- Digit-Al 6y agoHe's only being used as an example because he is, presumably, the richest person on the planet. The author of the article does not make any comment on the makers of the vaccine, presumably because they are not even close to the same league when it comes to wealth. The whole point of that section is pointing out how the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer. What better example of the rich getting richer can you find than the wealthiest man in the world?
