I find it kinda weird that you called the doormat archetype gross, and not the abuser.

  I read it as 'a gross position, don't put yourself in it'; not 'anyone in such a position is themselves gross'.

    Exactly. It's also unpleasant to witness this happening to someone else. In contrast I used 'hate' for the abuser.
