The crazy thing is that they are fleeing what they created through the politicians they voted for. And without fail, they will vote for the same type of politician in these new cities, thereby turning their new homes into the places they just fled.
- eyelidlessness 6y agoI’m tempted to just correct you, but I’m going to leave open the possibility that you’re discussing different policies than I think. What do you mean? What specifically in policy terms have politicians enacted to make certain cities substantially higher cost for residents?
- onecommentman 6y agoCould you cite historic evidence for that? It seems as likely the new settlers will signal their loyalty to their new home by visibly supporting the culture of their new location. No more rabid Prohibitionist than an ex-drunk. And nobody likes a carpetbagger. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpetbagger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpetbagger Once they are “culturally assimilated”, or at least think of it as home, the politics will follows whichever way it wants. Takes four to eight years in my limited experience. Pushing any agenda before they are settled will make life very difficult for them. More because they will sound grossly naive, because they will be. Also, when they say “we” should do something, the locals will be thinking, “what do you mean ‘we’, paleface?” https://alt.usage.english.narkive.com/ZfSmkb7M/what-is-origin-of-what-you-mean-we-kemo-sabe https://alt.usage.english.narkive.com/ZfSmkb7M/what-is-origi... If they stay in some cultural enclave and push the sort of agenda that a busybody in an HOA development does, they will be OK. “Yeah, well they’re from X, so...” This is not the first migration these places have seen, and they have their ways of managing it.
