Unfortunately this seems to have become the basis for a lot of entertainment reporting like what you find in the NYT. The allure is just too strong, and the economic necessity of keeping people coming back for their fresh 2 minutes hate is too powerful. I worry that the damage to public understanding of the world that people have is going to take a long time to reverse.
