I accidentally stumbled on keeping a commonplace book in a surprising way. Many years ago my close knit circle of friends abandoned Facebook for privacy reasons and one of us who is a web dev set up a minimal discourse instance. I found myself using it almost exactly how one might use a commonplace book and I feel that there are real cognitive benefits to this habit.
