> By staying home you help reduce transmission and the deaths of others.
This is not a science based belief. You spread the virus when you’re sick, generally noticeably so - coughing, etc.
We don’t even have strong evidence of this being strongly spread with asymptomatic people.
Anyone that’s not rich cannot afford to stay home. They have family to feed and unfortunately to people above a certain income level, they interpret this as being “selfish.”
- jasonlaramburu 6y agoWrong. COVID-19 is most contagious in the first 5 days after infection. Symptomatic and asymptomatic people have the same viral load. - gnusty_gnurc 6y agoStrangely the Chinese you esteem so highly found no transmission to close contacts of asymptomatic people. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w.pdf https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w.pdf
- jasonlaramburu 6y ago« The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wuhan was therefore very low five to eight weeks after the end of lockdown. » Strict lockdowns don’t work right?
- gnusty_gnurc 6y agoI haven’t a clue - what I do know is that you’ve argued “it’s American” to “help others” and by that you mean welding people in their homes and dragging family members forcibly from their homes.
- jasonlaramburu 6y agoWrong. I am arguing that if everyone stayed at home the virus would go away.
- gnusty_gnurc 6y agoAgain - lockdown is a policy advocated by the rich. It is a policy only wealthy nations can afford - and even then it’s massively disruptive. On the individual level, not everyone can Zoom to work. It is seriously tone deaf and divorced from normal, working class reality to just say “why can’t everyone stay home?” And then suggesting people are evil if they don’t want to.
- jasonlaramburu 6y agoDo you agree or disagree that if everyone stayed home, the virus would go away?
- gnusty_gnurc 6y agoI bet you went to an Ivy or something, this is the theoretical oversimplification a PhD would say. "Why don't the evil little people just stay home?"
- jasonlaramburu 6y agoSo you disagree that if everyone stayed home the virus would go away?
- Viliam1234 6y agoWell, some people can't stay at home because they are poor, and some can't stay at home because they are evil. For example, if you don't stay at home because you need to get to work and there is no option to work from home, you are probably poor. But if you don't stay at home because you are like "who cares about thousands of people dying, I want to go to a concert now, and anyway it's mostly old people at risk and I am young", I would frankly call that evil.
