Apple Pay draws antitrust attention
- mechnesium 6y agoApple provides Core NFC to developers: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corenfc https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corenfc It must either be pretty neutered, or against the terms to use it for payment processing, given that there are no competitors to Apple Pay on the App Store that take advantage of the iPhone’s NFC chip or Secure Enclave (that I’m aware of). I could definitely see the antitrust angle on this.
- nefitty 6y agoIt would be cool to be able to use Google Pay with nfc on my iPhone. There has been previous discussion on Apple’s lockdown of nfc for payments: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21544531 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21544531 It appears Germany passed a law to force providers like Apple to open up NFC to competitors. This supposedly went into effect on January 1, 2020. When I went to Google Pay’s docs, it said they only support US and India.
