I agree, I still think that git vs mercurial was the VHS vs betamax of VCSs. Git was better for the kernel, but mercurial was better for basically everything else. Saner defaults, much more user friendly, better CLI and GUI, better docs etc... Unfortunately as far as I'm concerned it's over. Git has won. It's just way too popular now, other DCVSs can't compete.
