EU and US are diverging on how to rein in Big Tech
- aksss 6y agoArchive link is here: https://archive.is/dfeB9 https://archive.is/dfeB9 It seems like the difference they refer to is a preference in EU and UK for fining the bejesus out of companies for privacy violations vs the US using trust-busting. Can't help but think that the intended ends of these strategies are different - the EU approach would work against any company - not just FANG - that violates privacy regs, assuming the violation was just big enough to warrant the overhead of the process. The US approach is specifically aimed at only the most high profile big tech companies and isn't oriented entirely around privacy concerns, but around monopolistic inclinations and the other problems that come from that status.
