Show HN: Software suite to help develop, package and publish Python desktop apps
- alexrustic 6y agoHello World ! I showcased Pyrustic four months ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23930255 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23930255 TLDR: you warmly welcomed the project + you made great feedback ! Thanks you again ! The recommended way to get Pyrustic was: - go to the project's Github; - click on Releases; - download the zip archive; - unpack it where you want; - install then run; - (and good luck remembering the pathname the next time you want to play with Pyrustic). Today, I'm proud to announce that the new recommended way is: - pip install pyrustic - python3 -m pyrustic This is how much a project can improve between two HackerNews Show HN. P.S: Pyrustic in this current version makes exclusive use of the Python Standard Library. But that could change in the next versions ! I am not into reinventing the wheel. PyPI is full of great packages. It's amazing to create something useful from scratch and then include stuff from people.
- alexrustic 6y agoInception: Python comes with batteries included. I started with a framework that relies exclusively on the Python Standard Library to build desktop apps. Then, with this framework, I created an SQL editor and a graphical test runner. I decided to bundle them together. The question then arises of knowing how to call a framework delivered with an SQL editor and a graphical test runner ? A framework with batteries included ? Why not a "software suite" ? Too pretentious ? So let's add "lightweight" + add more apps to the suite. Done. Next: There is a lot to do. My goal is to add some important features, then automated tests (yes the opposite of TDD) to make people confident to use Pyrustic, then think of some really good serious documentation, then think about the call to collaboration, git-workflow... Thanks for your feedback !
