Cyberpunk 2077 Din Schachtdeckel
- kuroguro 6y ago> Nevertheless, we feel obliged to point out in terms of quality assurance that a DIN 4271 manhole cover may not be installed on a roadway, as shown in the game. It's German humor, it's no laughing matter.
- moepstar 6y agoThis sentence is surely meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Source: being german :)
- ce4 6y agoIt is funny! Here's a change.org petition to have it fixed: https://www.change.org/p/the-cyberpunk-developers-fix-the-manhole-covers-in-cyberpunk-2077?utm_content=cl_sharecopy_26275151_de-DE%3A5&recruiter=1168505268&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition https://www.change.org/p/the-cyberpunk-developers-fix-the-ma...
- ce4 6y agoApart from that, i have flagged this post. That topic is not really news worthy for HN. While it's funny its probably born out of corona lockdown boredness and some specific german gamer humour in light of some more serious bugs in cyberpunk.
- ce4 6y agoIn case anyone wants to have a look at the standard (12.5 tons), here it is (it costs 30€ though): https://dx.doi.org/10.31030/1904306 https://dx.doi.org/10.31030/1904306
- rspoerri 6y agoJust because you dont share it's opinion or taste does not make it unworthy for other users of HN.
- mercer 6y agoIt's /exactly/ the type of thing I like to see on HN. It's sorta weird, very nerdy, and got me reading up on, of all things, manhole covers. We clearly have different ideas of what 'hackers' might be interested in.
- ce4 6y agoSorry, then. In my defense, that was just my opinion (also i'm obviously german) and I find the topic of regulation of manhole covers not that novel (that stuff is abundant over here and the DIN number is imprinted in each of them). PS: the concrete filling is to increase its weight (apparently not enough in the below incident) on the cheap compared to using steel.I once whitnessed how during a heavy storm a sewer surge pushed one of these out of its hole at the bottom of a hill and what serious hazard that created for motorists in the middle of that main street. You're right that this stuff is rather nerdy and that standards around it are interesting.
- wil421 6y ago> Cyberpunk 2077 features at least one DIN regulated manhole cover. >However, there is a severe error that popped up on a popular discussion forum of experts for holes for men. Discussion forum of experts for holes for men? What does this even mean. Is it supposed to be funny or a mistranslation of manhole?
- detaro 6y agoIt's a joke.
- jdpedrie 6y agoTranslated into English: https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&from=&to=en&a=https%3A%2F%2Frsv-ev.de%2Fcyberpunk-2077-din-schachtdeckel https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&from=&to=en&a=htt...
- cat199 6y agoalso, this is an article covering the change.org petition here: https://www.change.org/p/the-cyberpunk-developers-fix-the-manhole-covers-in-cyberpunk-2077 https://www.change.org/p/the-cyberpunk-developers-fix-the-ma... full text: Cyberpunk 2077 features at least one DIN regulated manhole cover. However, there is a severe error that popped up on a popular discussion forum of experts for holes for men. As stated here, the German DIN (like the ISO but far cooler) mandates that manhole covers on the street need to be of durability class D400 (for 40 metric tons) instead of D125 (for 12.5 tons). This oversight should be fixed immediately to ensure the playability of this game.
- usrusr 6y agoSurely a subtle indication of the general decaying state of civilization in Night City. If players fail to read anything into the outraging ability to purchase alcoholic beverages in some cyberpunk dive bar without getting age checked at the door, perhaps some misapplied imported manhole covers can make them realize.
- dmitshur 6y agoA possible justification is that cars are more lightweight in 2077.
- Hamuko 6y agoThat would explain why my car jumped into the sky when I drove over a pedestrian.
- roboben 6y agoCars disappearing when looking away, ok. People disappearing when looking away, ok. General pretty dumb AI, ok. But this! It's unplayable now for me, sorry!
- rspoerri 6y agoYes! That manhole error is the tipping point! I cant play a game that has so many story elements covering 50 Hours + gameplay and when i drive down a street for 60 seconds it totally breaks down my life experience. Also way worse then the Vectrex graphics, at least it featured 3d glasses, and Cyberpunk is so repetitive, unbelievable!
- harryf 6y agoThe petition says... > D400 (for 40 metric tons) instead of D125 (for 12.5 tons) ...but D125 is incorrect! It should be B125 (e.g. see https://www.wrekinproducts.com/british-standard-groups-and-classes/ https://www.wrekinproducts.com/british-standard-groups-and-c... ). Has humanity reached the point where we can't rely on Germans to get their facts correct?
- blastonico 6y agoFleisch bologna wurst und brot.
