Academics turn RAM into Wi-Fi cards to steal data from air-gapped systems
- detaro 6y agorather "use RAM to create signals on Wi-Fi bands and band-monitoring features in Wi-Fi cards to detect them" (which IMHO is neat enough, no need to go for the exaggeration...) Paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2012.06884 https://arxiv.org/abs/2012.06884
- 8bitsrule 6y agoSounds like a new twist on the computers that played melodies on AM radio receivers back in the 50s-70s. https://www.vintagecomputer.net/computermusic.cfm https://www.vintagecomputer.net/computermusic.cfm

"Guri says he tested the technique with different air-gapped computer rigs where the Wi-Fi card was removed and was able to leak data at speeds of up to 100 b/s to devices up to several meters away." Still would require pretty extensive human assets.
