Show HN: mnm, an open source project to replace email and SMTP
The mnm project is building a legitimate* replacement for email: a client, a server, and a simple protocol between them.
https://mnmnotmail.org
The project is seeking contributors and patrons. It has been in progress since 2017, wholly self-funded. This is the first announcement to a wide audience.
[*] Legitimate, meaning decentralized, store-and-forward, open protocol, open source.

- rendx 6y agoFrom skimming the front page, all of the features described could just be implemented (and standardized) on top of SMTP/IMAP instead of replacing it, no?
- networkimprov 6y agoI suppose I could have borrowed aspects of IMAP, but the result wouldn't interoperate with other IMAP software. Here's the protocol draft: https://github.com/networkimprov/mnm/blob/master/Protocol.md https://github.com/networkimprov/mnm/blob/master/Protocol.md
