Prominent scientists frequently believe in quack theories outside their area of expertise. Socialism is complete quackery from the Economics perspective, and one the belief in which has cost humanity dearly. Marx, for just one example, repeated basic economic fallacies like the Luddites' belief that mechanization would reduce the demand for workers and reduce wages, which is literally the exact opposite of the effect of mechanization/automation, and which was demonstrated to be wrong even within Marx's own lifetime.
