I hate how Reddit is still viable after removing their warrant canary, having a CEO edit comments, and banning thousands of subreddits. Now they're acquiring a new video platform? I hope they become less and less relevant.
- panpanna 6y agoDon't forget they started forcing people to use their app (in some subs). If your business doesn't work in a browser, I'm out.
- ffpip 6y ago> Don't forget they started forcing people to use their app (in some subs). All subs actually. It is country specific, not sub reddit related.

- ve55 6y agoNetwork effects are a powerful force. (You and most here likely know this, but something about social media network effects seems... almost inherently unfair to me sometimes. Users really cannot switch to alternative platforms and products that they want to use unless everyone they like switches too, which is too difficult of a coordination problem, and so the users have zero leverage while the platform has all of it, and we see user-hostile things happen increasingly over time)
- jrootabega 6y agoMost people just don't care. One of the tragedies of becoming more wise and noticing the ways the system abuses people is that you also notice there is a steady stream of young people who don't even know yet. Then you realize you were one of them and your actions contributed to the abuse of those who went before you.
- pmiller2 6y agoWarrant canaries would not appeal in any way to any but a small subset of Reddit's demographic. The other two, there was some serious backlash, but I don't know how it affected DAUs.
