I regret to inform everyone that "crypto" for "cryptocurrency" is standard finance jargon now.
If it makes you feel better, you can replace it with "cryptosporidium" and it'll still be correct.
- contravariant 6y agoOkay, now I want to know how long this has been part of the wikipedia article. >Cryptosporidium, sometimes informally called crypto, is a genus of apicomplexan parasitic alveolates that can cause a respiratory and gastrointestinal illness (cryptosporidiosis) that primarily involves watery diarrhea (intestinal cryptosporidiosis) with or without a persistent cough (respiratory cryptosporidiosis) in both immunocompetent and immunodeficient humans.[1] (emphasis mine)
- davidgerard 6y agoCDC's been calling it that for a while https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/crypto/index.html https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/crypto/index.html Cryptocurrency: not even chlorine can clear it up
- Tomte 6y agoCryptozoology is the field where you try to keep abreast of all those new cryptocurrencies. ;-)
