I remember something like 25 years ago (when I was 8) that the variant of Basic I used did not have a good if-then-else. Instead it was done a lot using if and goto (with line numbers :-)) Some years later in embedded development I learned that this was actually more similar to the CPU instructions used underneath, conditional jumps.
