"Unsere Feinde: 96 Charakterköpfe aus deutschen Kriegsgefangenenlagern"
"Our Enemies: 96 Portraits from German POW Camps".
You can flip through. Each portrait simply lists the nationality or ethnicity and then the name of the person. Some are French Algerians, some black.
I wonder what the point was here. Was it "our enemies are bringing black people to Europe to fight us?" That could be. I found another contemporary book called "Der Völkercircus unserer Feinde" - "Our Enemies' Circus of Races", by Otto Frobenius, an anthropologist of a fairly racist kind.
Or it may not have been so simple. Otto Stiehl [1], the author of this book, was an architect. In 1916 he was in charge of a prison camp for Tartars who had fought on the allied side. He built a memorial to the Tartars who had fallen in combat or died in the camp.[2] The prison camp, incidentally, contained Germany's first mosque.[3]
