- DanBC 6y agoWhat's the federal law being broken?

- DanBC 6y agoRight, but which bit of those do you think makes this specifically a crime?
- _iyig 6y agoApologies for pedantry - here is the dictionary definition of "crime": https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crime https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crime >1: an illegal act for which someone can be punished by the government And from the Code of Laws of the United States of America, linked previously: >Any alien (including an alien crewman) in and admitted to the United States shall, upon the order of the Attorney General, be removed if the alien is within one or more of the following classes of deportable aliens: >(1) Inadmissible at time of entry or of adjustment of status or violates status [...] To reside in the U.S. illegally is prohibited by law, and the government shall punish you with removal to your country of origin. In other words, residing in the U.S. illegally is a crime. EDIT: Downvotes because I'm mistaken, or because you don't like the U.S. Code? If the above analysis is wrong, please correct it.
- tomcam 6y agoGlad you asked. Applicable statute below. Did you know that illegal entry into virtually any one of the 193 countries in the world is considered a federal crime in those countries? I would be interested in learning where it is encouraged or legal. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325 https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325
