With Google competing with Microsoft for the Lower to mid range market, Microsoft will have corporate competition on a large sector of their traditionally cornered market. It's going to be an amazing next 10 years for the desktop and web technologies. Late 90's/early 2000's progress was impeded by the Microsoft monopoly. Even better Chromium listening to what Developers want, the web will move forward at a staggering pace. Combined with the realization of interface importance, mind blowing UI hardware improvements are already happening. I'm usually cynical, but this really may usher in the golden age of computing.
