So NYT essentially let an editor post a libelous piece of work now that has cost a company a major source of revenue? What are the odds this isn't going to turn into a lawsuit?
- staticautomatic 6y agoPretty good. Streisand effect.
- kelchm 6y agoThis is exactly what people mean when they say “fake news” in many cases. Not that the facts of a story are technically incorrect, but the way things are presented (or not presented) is intentionally designed to shift the readers perspective in a certain direction.
- just-juan-post 6y agoYep and same thing with "hoax".
- pault 6y agoReading the NY times article I wasn't sure whether to laugh or rage at how the author repeatedly equated videos with "teen" in the title and child sex abuse. I've been an avid consumer of porn since the early 1990s and nearly every movie has a "teen" in it who is certainly no younger than 25. So apparently all of that "sexy teen" porn I've watched over the years was CP.
- disown 6y agoIt's been my experience that criticizing the nyt is the easiest way to get downvoted and flagged. So brace yourself. The most privileged propaganda company in the world.
- btorretta 6y agoCritique of pornhub is coming from all sides this time, including national review.
- foepys 6y agoThere is at least one case where someone found videos of their own rape on PornHub and PornHub refused to delete them. I'd argue that this is a serious matter.
- Throwaway1771 6y agoSource?
- MeinBlutIstBlau 6y agoThat's pornhub saying "Come back with a Police Report." I mean no offense to these victims, but unfortunately, you have to engage with the legal system if you also want private entities to participate as well. Otherwise they set a standard that anybody who wanted anything taken down could just claim "rape, etc" and then they'd be shooting themselves in the foot for a legitimate lawsuit. I get that it's hard, but many of these victims need to realize when you make a bold claim such as that, you need to completely commit to that path. Otherwise it's still strictly hearsay.
- gamblor956 6y agoLibel means defamatory. Pornhub does not deny any of the allegations in the NYT article. They only claim that they have instituted policies to address the issues raised in the article.
- uxcolumbo 6y agoI would do a bit more research before trying to defend pornhub - start here: https://traffickinghub.com/ https://traffickinghub.com/ They are a shady bunch and don’t seem to care about the victims, otherwise they would have invested more of their profits into detecting abuse and exploitation. I hope they get shutdown or be replaced by a better leadership so that a more ethical platform can arise.
