Uber wants drivers and delivery workers to get priority access to vaccine
- lambda_obrien 6y agoThey probably should, to be honest. The first should be medical jobs and people who work at hospitals, then old folks and those who are sick, then public-facing jobs like Uber drivers or grocery clerks, then the people like us lucky folks who get to stay at home and do our jobs from here. Politicians and lawyers last :)
- sova 6y ago>Uber’s advocating on behalf of workers comes amid an ongoing battle around how to classify rideshare drivers and delivery workers. Uber has long argued that its workers are not employees, while many gig workers have argued they are misclassified as independent contractors and should be entitled to the many labor rights that come with the employee classification. "Advocacy" to keep your worker bees operational is clearly not without a double-ended motive. But it's true, they do enable many people to get home with a paycheck.
- southeastern 6y agoIf the idea is to vaccinate the most vulnerable first, it may be a good idea to specifically target older frontline workers. Group immunity is still far away, but we can keep cases from being as severe.
