There's a big difference between * rooting the phone with an exploit * rooting the phone with a modified boot image from original firmware (is this even possible any more?) * installing a new ROM that allows root access I think if I rooted my Note 9 it would permanently mark the phone as having been "tampered with", and at least on a 3rd party ROM I'd lose Samsung/Google Pay
