A decent wireless router will do a gigabit, right?
- vel0city 6y agoAccording to the label on the box? Sure. In practice WiFi in a noisy RF environment with their router tucked into a cabinet on the far side of their house? Doubt they'll usually see more than a few hundred Mbit.
- tunesmith 6y agoGigabit up/down fiber here, with the most recent Orbi WiFi6 mesh (ax6000). WiFi speeds one room away are about 360Mbps.
- throw0101a 6y agoIs that for one device? If 2+ people are doing stuff would that double+ the bandwidth used?
- tunesmith 6y agoI didn't spend a lot of time analyzing - at some point I'll go room to room. But at the time I measured I was the only person in the house.
- rhino369 6y agoDepends what you mean by decent. I've got a 200 dollar router that can get 800 with essentially line of sight. 600 in the new room. But I have to rely on wireline to connect the other half of my apartment. And I'm probably still in the top 10% of networked homes.
