A member of the House Intelligence Committee says “congressional offices don't have the ‘technical capabilities’ to run background checks on the people they work with...”? I don’t buy that for a second, except in a very narrow sense that individual Congresspeople don’t by themselves. They can certainly tap an existing source of that capability. They oversee a fair amount of such apparatus.
