Trad. Engineering has a productivity problem – and nobody is talking about it
- fjfaase 6y agoSome things in software are harder to change than in traditional engineering. Let me just mention one: CR LF for line-endings. A long, long time ago, a CR without LF could be used to make bold text or to underline text. And where-as traditional engineering can make use of advanced tools to 'generate' solutions, no such thing has happened to software engineering yet. Software engineering is still heavily relying on craftmanship to such an extend that it barely can be called engineering, I think.
- agdoko 6y agoThanks fjfaase for reading the piece and for that insight. It reminds me of points made in that article "What is Software Design" by Reeves. Would be delighted to talk to you further about this and get more of your perspective, if you're open to it. Can I send you an email? I see it on your personal page.
