Ask HN: What's your best purchase of this year?
Every year I buy things that I'm convinced will provide me additional value, but it always comes down to a few that have significantly changed my living for the better. This year it is a hundred dollar pillow that cured my problems with falling asleep.
- nikivi 6y agoAside from new Macbook & phone, I got my first VR (Oculus Quest 2) and that was rather fun. Especially playing In Death: Unchained (https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2334376869949242/ https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2334376869949242/) is very fun. I also loved getting my clothes from Allbirds, got shoes, sweater there. Share the whole list here: https://wiki.nikitavoloboev.xyz/sharing/things https://wiki.nikitavoloboev.xyz/sharing/things
- mill 6y agoI love the idea of having an external second brain, I use primarily Notion but might try out Gitbook. Also, I've been thinking of Oculus, however, I'm worried that it will turn out as another "hot" purchase
- lecarore 6y agoMy new, portable coffee setup : an aeropress and a grinder (1zpresso q2 mini). I'm making coffee everyday with this and it's been great. I used to think espresso was the only option, but espresso tools are not easily portable and I tend to switch country every year or so. I also bought a portable 15inch screen for my laptop, not as good as expected but still a good use of 90€
- mill 6y agoThis seems like a great Christmas present. Thanks!
- SubGenius 6y agoI bought a Kinesis Advantage 2. My wrist/hand pain has disappeared completely. Still not typing as fast as I'd like to, but the lack of pain makes up for it. The onboard remaps and macros are amazing.
- mill 6y agoI'm a fan of mechanical keyboards never tried out the ergonomic ones. What other benefits they provide?
- FroshKiller 6y agoI bought a standing desk for working from home from UPLIFT Desk: https://www.upliftdesk.com/ https://www.upliftdesk.com/ Normally, I work at an office building, but I needed something for home due to the pandemic. It's been great.
- mill 6y agoA standing desk has been on my shopping list for a long time. Thanks for reminding me!
- anon905314 6y agoI bought a cheap paperback book recommended by a friend. It got me away from the computer screen and gave us more to talk about.
- mill 6y agoDo you mind sharing what was the book? I'm always on the lookout for "unexpected" books.
