Jupiter and Saturn Head for Closest Visible Alignment in 800 Years
- accrual 6y agoMy SO and I plan to observe this. Would it be worth investing in a beginner's telescope to enhance the view?
- HeavenFox 6y agoAbsolutely. Even a small inexpensive reflector telescope like the $200 AWB OneSky is sufficient to see Saturn's ring or Jupiter's moons, and it's a sight you won't forget.
- tbeseda 6y agoCareful buying right now. Looks like most of the popular scopes are well above double their normal cost. At least on Amazon.
- pacamara619 6y agoYes it would be worth it but don't rush the purchase and inform yourself beforehand. Definitely check out /r/telescopes. An 8 inch dobsonian reflector telescope is recommended so much that it has become a meme, but it is rightfully recommended!
- dave333 6y agoA pair of binoculars will give a pretty good view and is much cheaper/easier/more versatile to use than a telescope. Any 7x50 is good for astronomy, and for this Jupiter/Saturn conjunction higher magnification would be better - saw these 15x70 Celestron binocs on sale at REI if you have a local store - mail order will be too slow: https://www.rei.com/product/147553/celestron-skymaster-15x70-binoculars?CAWELAID=120217890005235616&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=107744802704&CATCI=pla-366418484527&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_1475530001%7C92700053582160263%7CNB%7C71700000066692654&gclid=CjwKCAiAiML-BRAAEiwAuWVggh0xsXFbFkcTcXsiGSgrHTWdqwVGuvZYuYDI6I9W7Z3VQVHbwN5phxoCLhEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.rei.com/product/147553/celestron-skymaster-15x70...
