I have a wax issue myself, which can cause lots of buildup since it doesn't always fall out on its own. Several years back it got quite bad, so I went to an ENT doctor in SF and they did this suction thing. It felt so strange but it worked like magic. Even jingling my keys was a bit sensitive at first until my eardrum got used to the sound again due to (probably) having a clearer surface area.
