Tech billionaires hack their taxes with a philanthropic loophole (2018)
- aminozuur 6y agoThe article targets the founder of GoPro, and the donations he made to his own charity, of which little is known. Is it unthinkable that he just wants to donate to charities without telling the world about it? I don't see why they highlighted him, without proof that his charity exists solely for tax benefits.
- isoblvck 6y agothis has been happening forever. when I hear "foundation" I think "tax shelter"
- Decker87 6y agoIt doesn't seem that shady to me. You donate some assets to a DAF instead of directly to a nonprofit, so you can decide later how to actually give it away. As long as that's a one-way path and they can't withdraw it later, I don't see the big issue. Now the money might be given to nonprofits that aren't charitable or are "bad" in some way, but that's possible normally. Seems like DAFs just create another hop?
