- disbeliefbee 6y ago^this. I believe Red Hat is anticipating this movement and betting on other things. Playing the long game. It's sad, the community is sad, the employees are sad. But company-wise it makes sense.
- awill 6y agoNo it doesn't. Support your stuff until you have a replacement.
- viraptor 6y agoAre you thinking about RedHat Atomic Linux Server?
- aprdm 6y agoWhat will change...? A lot of F500 companies have a lot of infrastructure and changes are not fast.. HPC industry is another one of those. Unless you mean startups?
- flatline 6y agoThe software industry as a whole has been moving away from major releases for commoditized products like web browsers for a long time. The OS has become one such product. Windows has been planning this for some time now: where is Windows 11? OSX has catchy release names but has reverted to macOS - no number. You’re right, change is slow, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable statement. Large organizations will eventually catch up and/or roll their own solutions with internal devops teams. HPCs are already so highly specialized I’m not sure what the difference would be, and as virtualization performance continues to improve I think we will see a gradual, but not complete, shift from aggressive compiler optimization for niche architectures and configurations.
- aprdm 6y agoThis isn't true for internal software tho, user facing, sure, but, chrome dependencies have a version pinned to them.
- joana035 6y agoWe will be starting hosts with preloaded images, write my words! :D
