Why Is Transgender Identity on the Rise Among Teens?
- Bostonian 6y agoBrown assistant professor Lisa Littman has published a paper on rapid onset gender dysphoria, suggesting that peer pressure could be a cause. I have children in public schools, where I think transgenderism is being promoted by teachers stating their preferred pronouns and asking student what their pronouns are, and by the presence of a LGBTQ club. I wonder if the fraction of trans teens is lower at Catholic schools that do not approve of transgenderism.
- DanBC 6y agoROGD is bogus and the term is only ever used by transphobes or people who've been duped by transphobes. Littman went to anti-trans online forums and asked parents for experiences. Unsurprisingly she found people who were anti-trans. If I was a gender-incongruent child there's no way I'd come out to those people, which is why my eventual coming out would come as a surprise to them and appear to be rapid onset. Littman's own university had to issue corrections to the paper. No health organisation anywhere in the world uses the concept of ROGD, and many have to keep debunking it.
- jfengel 6y agoThe same blogger also wrote an article back in February whose point was, "Hey, even if you get COVID-19, there's only a 2% chance of dying, so no biggie." https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/culture-mind-and-brain/202002/the-coronavirus-is-much-worse-you-think https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/culture-mind-and-bra...
- pmdulaney 6y agoI found this highly illuminating. As a culture we are failing to provide healthy ways for young people to think and to navigate their way in the world. The impulse to ROGD in girls seems akin to an impulse to suicide: sympomatic of utter despair.
- DanBC 6y ago> The impulse to ROGD in girls It's a myth. You've been duped.
- chewzerita 6y agoA flagrant attempt to legitimize transphobia with flawed and biased “studies”, flagged.
